TAV Airports succeeded in completing two important projects in the last month. Following the opening of İzmir Adnan Menderes Domestic Terminal, TAV won the tender for Bodrum Airport for 20 years and wants to incorporate new airports. TAV carried out important investments in recent years and provided employment for 24 thousand people with these new investments. Mentioning that this contribution that they provided was not only in the field of employment, TAV Chief Executive Officer Sani Şener said that they made a total contribution of TRY 961 million to the public along with the taxes and the rents paid this year. Winning the tender of Bodrum Airport recently and opening İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport, TAV is planning to make an investment of over €260 million for İzmir only. How was the year 2013 for TAV Airports, can you tell us? I can say that the year 2013 was quite good for us. Financially, we reached all of our targets that we proclaimed to our partners and shareholders for 2013. All of the expenditure amounts for passengers, turn-over, EBITDA and investment that we announced are carried out in compliance with our aims. We reached a turn-over of € 904 million with 7% increase and an EBITDA of €381 million with 16% increase. We have an increase of 3% in net profit and we obtained the highest profit in TAV Airports Holding history with €133 million. We reached a two digits increase in both our turn-over and EBITDA; our number of passengers increased to 84 million with 51 million in Atatürk Airport and 33 million in the other airports. This number is quiteMendeimportant. We believed that we could reach 100 million passengers in 2020. Now, we reached this number thanks to our new projects such as the ones in Madinah and Zagreb and also to the organic growth of passengers in our airports located in Turkey and the other countries. We think that the number of passengers will be over 90 million in this year. It seems that we didn’t think big enough and believe that we will soon reach our targets for 2020. Among our activities, the first thing that stands out is the passenger growth of 14% in İstanbul Atatürk Airlines with over 51 million passengers which makes it the 5th largest airport in Europe and the 17th in the world. We are proud to operate Atatürk Airport which is very important for Turkey and which serves as a model for many airports in the world. French Aéroports de Paris bought 38% of our shares. The most important purpose of this action was to cooperate with an industrial partner, not with a financial one. Our cooperation with Aéroports de Paris brought results that we expected in a short time. One of them is the inclusion of the Zagreb Airport in Croatia to our portfolio. Despite having a share of 15% in the consortium that will operate the airport, we believe that this operation will strengthen our existence in Eastern Europe. Including our participation, we provide employment for 24 thousand people in TAV Airports Holding as of the end of 2013. We made a contribution of TRY 961 million to the public with the taxes and the rents we paid within the year. Additionally, we paid salaries of approximately TRY 800 million in 2013 for total employment including our participations consolidated pursuant to the equity method within the year. The total investment to be made for İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport will be over €260 million. Our sound basis has brought us to where we are today. And our knowledge will carry us into the future. We have attractive opportunities ahead both in our main activity area and maybe outside of this area. We have these opportunities thanks to the great efforts of our employees and the support of our partners; I believe that we will also have great success in forthcoming periods. What are you expecting from 2014? With our offer of €717 million + VAT, we won the tender organized for the 20-years operation right of Milas - Bodrum Airport which is among Turkey’s most important tourism destinations. We will operate Milas - Bodrum Airport until the end of 2035. Among our bigger targets, we can mention that, as a consequence of our partnership with Aéroports de Paris and Goldman Sachs, we will join the LaGuardia Airport tender which is in New York State of USA. Another important agenda topic this year was the opening of İzmir Adana Menderes Airport Domestic Terminal. With this investment, we completed the gate befitting to the Aegean region that hosts our country’s wide tourism potential. In Medina, there is 1.5 years more to complete our investments but we can already see the financially positive effects of hajj and umrah traffic on Medina Airport. As always, we expect a two-digit growth in turn-over and EBITDA and we believe that we will realize this. We have serious data in our hands and we have capacity to quickly transform them into knowledge. For this reason we succeed. What do you expect from your partnership with French? The French lobby in Africa is very powerful and we want to open up to Africa. We believe that we will do serious business with the French in Africa. Our main purpose is to go to third countries together. We want to show that the collaboration with France will create an effect beyond the power of both companies. We have investors in France, the Middle East and Austria, some of them are in management and some of them are not. Our partnership with French people makes great contribution to our company and also to the regions where France is effective. In addition, we have mutual interaction in terms of technology. In addition, with this cooperation, an international direct investment of $1 billion was made to our country. You opened İzmir Adnan Menderes Domestic Terminal. What is your targeted passenger capacity and income? When İzmir Terminal united with the international terminal, it became one of the largest terminals of Turkey after Istanbul. Along with its architectural and structural features, the technical and technological applications used in its construction serve as a prominent model in Turkey and in the region. Producing electricity from solar energy and reutilizing wastewaters, the terminal was designed in a manner that respects the environment while providing top-level comfort to the passengers. Built by Turkish architects, engineers and employees, an environment-friendly airport with Leeds certificate where the information systems are used intensely will be a good example to show the improvement of our country. The Turkish aviation sector is developing quickly. In the future, Ankara and İzmir will also become a hub. The architectural differences of the İzmir Adnan Menderes Domestic Terminal building are prominent. Can you talk a bit about them? The new terminal building that we will operate until the end of 2023 provides a unique experience to its users both functionally and aesthetically with its sharp and modern lines, courtyards and pools, wide but simple internal volume. The new terminal enables the passengers to see the parked airplanes, the apron and the airplanes while taking off. We established all of the design, construction and operation processes of the new terminal within the frame of environmental sustainability policy. In terminal, there is 64 check-in counters, 40 elevators, 30 escalators and 666 m moving walkway. Luggage capacity is 5 thousand units of luggage per hour and it has 291.267 m2 total construction area. In addition, thanks to the heat pumps, rain harvesting systems, grey water recycling system, sun collectors and trigeneration power plant used in the new terminal, the energy and water consumption reduces and waste management is carried out effectively. The terminal has a trigeneration system that produces electricity from natural gas and reveals heating and cooling energy. Do you find the performance of the airport in Bodrum sufficient? What is your performance expectation? Along with the passenger traffic of over 3.5 million, Milas - Bodrum Airport is a port that connects an important tourism center to the world. Milas Bodrum Airport is the 14th airport that we operate. Bodrum is a candidate to be the Turkey’s 4th largest city in 2025. We believe in the future of Bodrum. You said that your target for 15th airport is LaGuardia. How close are you to your target? LaGuardia is the second largest airport following JFK in London and has now approximately 13 million passengers. Also it has a growth capacity up to 25 million passengers. We participate this project with the partnership of Goldman Sachs, TAV and Aeroport de Paris. We were evaluated in many aspects such as the operation, maintenance and construction process. It will be operational until 2050. For this tender that we compete as four groups, we will submit our last offers by May 20.
