The renewable energy industry which gains importance in the world and in Turkey with each passing day continues to grow as the energy need continues to increase. As per the “Medium-Term Renewable Energy Market Report 2014” of the International Energy Agency (IEA), the energy need in Europe will increase by 0.8 percent on average every year until 2020. In the report, it was stated that the contribution of Turkey to this increase is about 50 percent and in Europe, a capacity increase of 141,000 megawatts is expected in renewable energy until 2020 and 15% of this increase will be met by the investments of Turkey. Forecasts regarding the renewable energy until 2020 have been included in the report and it is stated that more than half of the renewable energy production will be realized by Germany, England and Turkey. In addition to this, it is specified that Turkey will contribute to the 15% of this increase in the use of renewable energy resources including hydroelectric power plants (HPP), wind power plants (WPP), solar energy plants (SEP), biomass and geothermal resources and it is forecasted that the renewable energy capacity which was 27,313 megawatts in the previous year will increase to 38,800 megawatts by 2020.
