2016 wasn't a smooth year for some industries. Tourism and transportation are the foremost of these. Terrorist attacks in 2016 caused economic stagnation in Turkey just as in the whole world. Particularly the geopolitical events in Turkey adversely effected the tourism industry and in the first nine months of 2016 the number of foreign tourists visiting Turkey decreased down to 24.7 million with a 26.4% fall in comparison to the previous year. These circumstances in tourism detracted the volume of passenger transportation as well. According to the data published by DHMİ, in the first nine months of 2016 the number of airways passengers fell down to 133.2 million with a 5% decrease from the previous year and the number of commercial aircrafts decreased down to a 1.1 million with a 0.3% fall in the same period.
