During the first 5 months of 2015, the number of passengers across Turkey showed an increase of 8% compared to the same period of the previous year to reach 63 million. In May 2015, Istanbul Atatürk and Sabiha Gökçen Airports and Ankara Esenboğa Airport achieved a double-digit growth rate in the number of domestic and international passengers. Growth rates achieved at Istanbul Atatürk Airport are 13% in domestic lines and 12% in international lines, at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport 27% in domestic lines and 15% in international lines, and at Ankara Esenboğa Airport 14% in domestic lines and 10% in international lines. NEW AIRPORTS WILL BE PUT INTO SERVICE Ordu-Giresun Airport, the only artificial island airport in Turkey and Europe, was put into service. Ordu-Giresun Airport, the groundbreaking ceremony of which was held on 24 July 2011 and which was brought into use in Ordu and Giresun on May 2015, has a 3 kilometer long runway strenghtened by 7 kilometers of stone filling the sea with 36 million tones of stone, has cost 360 million Turkish liras. Another airport which was put into service in May is Hakkari-Yüksekova Airport. The foundation of the giant project was laid in 2010 and it was expected to be completed in 2012. But it was delayed by three years due to the sabotage attempts. The first flight of Selahaddin Eyyubi Airport took place on May 21st, and it is located 65 km away from Hakkari and 5 km away from Yüksekova. The airport has an annual capacity of 2 million passengers, and it was founded on 2 million square meter area, 22 thousand square meters of which is closed.
