TEPTA LIGHTING 25TH ANNIVERSARY EXHIBITION: DAY, LIGHT, NIGHT

Istanbul Modern hosts “Day, Light, Night”, an exhibition celebrating the 25th anniversary of TEPTA Lighting, Istanbul Modern’s lighting sponsor since the Museum’s foundation in 2004, with the support of Consulate General of Italy in Istanbul. The first exhibition in Turkey to focus exclusively on “lighting”, “Day, Light, Night” brings together some of the world’s leading architects, designers, artists and the design-oriented lighting brands that TEPTA represents in Turkey. Curated by lighting designer Ulrike Brandi, the exhibition comprises original works prepared especially for the occasion by designers, artists and architects focused on lighting, installations and light objects. Brandi is the founding director of UBL and Brandi Institute in Germany. The conceptual framework of the exhibition was inspired by the way Istanbul’s temperament varies depending on the hour and weather conditions of the day. In this regard, the exhibition’s nine installations provide viewers an opportunity to rethink and interpret “natural light”. The exhibition concept is summarized by the curator’s own words: Natural light leads us through our days and nights – in other words through our whole lives. Natural light makes us healthy and happy and helps us to experience our environment. It creates different atmospheres. So, why don’t we learn more from natural light when we create spaces with artificial light? Let’s not imitate, let’s be inspired by natural light.

VIVALDIANNO

Vivaldianno will be at Istanbul on November 5, 2016. A unique concert show in 3D. Grounded in the music of the Baroque, it is expanded with contemporary sound and propelled by contemporary energy, as it tells the chilling story of the Baroque genius Antonio Vivaldi and his life’s hopes and losses. A orchestra, which covers classical as well as art-rock instrumentation, occupies the stage between large-format projections in front and in the back of it. Along with a complex and sophisticated light design that utilizes cutting-edge technologies, this gives the audience an unequalled musical experience in the third dimension.
