CUBA AND NIGERIA IS ON TAV'S RADAR

TAV Airports announced that negotiations will be started with Cuban authorities regarding the improvement and operation of Havana Airport. On the other hand, the company is also watching for opportunities in Africa. TAV has met with the Nigerian authorities in order to operate airports in the country. The consortium composed of TAV Airports, Groupe ADP and Bouygues Batiment International has been invited for negotiations regarding the project including the improvement and operation of Jose Marti International Airport in Havana, the capital of Cuba. The project also includes the improvement of San Antonio de los Banos airport. CEO of TAV Airports Sani Şener said: “As TAV, our products and services are available in 70 airports in 17 countries. We have sufficient financial and operational competency to carry on business all over the world and we are welcoming the opportunities. We have been invited for initiating negotiations exclusively together with our French partner ADP and BBI which has carried out significant construction projects in Cuba regarding the improvement and operation of two airports that we were monitoring closely for about a year. We will conduct negotiations regarding the renovation, improvement and operation of Havana Jose Marti Airport and also the improvement of San Antonio de los Banos Airport located in the western part of the country. The capacity of Havana Airport (currently providing service for about 5 million passengers in a year) is aimed to be increased to over 10 million in 2020”. Cuba which has a population of 11 million and which is only 150 kilometers far away from Florida coast in USA has a huge Diaspora in USA through its more than 2 million of immigrants. 3 million 520 thousand tourists have visited the country in 2015 (with an increase of 17.4 % compared to the previous year). The number of tourists coming from USA has reached to 166 thousand (with an increase of 77%). TAV is also willing to operate airport in Nigeria (a Sub- Saharan African country) that has a considerable high potential of aviation through its population of app. 180 million. TAV had met with local partners and is interested in public projects such as operating Nmandi Azikiwe International Airport (located in Abuja) through public partnership. TAV Airports Holding had a meeting with the Minister of Aviation of Nigeria and is open to cooperation with the local partners in the country.
