The biggest sports festival organized for professionals of the business world Istanbul Corporate Games was held between 7th and 9th June. Celebrating the 11th anniversary this year, the festival was held under the auspices of Istanbul’s Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Kadir Topbaş. Many of Turkey’s leading companies attended the festival which brought the business world environment into sports. Teams composed of company employees competed in 15 branches in various sports facilities located in İstanbul, from Maslak Campus to Kalamış Park. EVENTS Even though the season brings cold weather, the ongoing event schedule helps us keep excitement and energy in these chilly days. Here are the events that await art-lovers... Barbara and Zafer Baran : 'Retrospectif' Within the ‘ Observatory’ exhibition at the Istanbul Modern, Barbara and Zafer Baran offer a retrospective of the last period of coproduction from 1999 to the present day. Without going too far away, it’s like a journey to the point we are standing. The Baran’s are by looking at a wilting flower, our prints at the sky and the earth, or the light beam extending from the moon and stars, transfering the most simple forms of life into photography. 'Lost in Yonkers' Pulitzer Prize-winning family comedy “ Lost in Yonkers “is now showing at the Profilo Kültür Merkezi Hall. Written by Neil Simon In 1990 and staged in Broadway and all over the world, “ Lost in Yonkers “ is about two siblings who had to live with a unloving grandmother and a disabled aunt after their father suffers financial problems. Translated into Turkish by Nedim Saban. Performered by Serpil Tamur, Özge Özder , Asuman Çakir and Abdül Süsler. BEYOĞLU 'NUN EN GÜZEL ABİSİ As a result of a murder, the novel begins with the discovery of a man’s body in the back streets of Tarlabasi on New Year’s Eve. It’s an adventure story with themes of urban transformation. Incidents triggered by a murder that took place in New Year’s Eve of 2014, connects with many other issues throughout the story. "INCOGNITO - THE SECRET LIFES OF THE BRAIN" Famous neuroscientist David Eagleman’s book ‘Incognito’ (published in 20 languages), reveals with a eerily clarity that most of the things we do, think and feel are being managed by another ‘self’ apart from ourselves. From ‘loyalty genes’ to brain damages that turn you into someone you are not, from Trojan conqueror Odysseus to synesthesia, people who can hear colors and taste shapes, Incognito brings together a wide range of cases and research, and offers a voyage of discovery into how the brain functions and it’s contradictions. TEK KANATLI BİR KUŞ One of the masters of Turkish Literature Yaşar Kemal’s recent book ‘Tek Kanatlı Bir Kuş’, is an epic novel of fear that spread like a disease in the community. It reveals characters with great depth and richness, and is told as a fairytale. The book also reveals some excellent sharp dialogues. LEBANESE CUISINE FROM THE PAST TO THE PRESENT DAY Two Lebanese friends have created a new world of cooking. Both food lovers, one with a professional cooking background and the other with knowledge passed down from his ancesters, have added their own creativity to produce ‘The Lebanese Cuisine From Yesterday To Today’. OTTOMAN ISTANBUL In his book ‘Ottoman Istanbul’ the well known architectural historian Doğan Kuban, examines mosques, palaces, hammams and fountains that were made while Istanbul was capital of the Ottoman empire.
