“Renewable energy capacity worldwide will increase by 50% over the next five years. Solar energy will lead by 60%, followed by wind and hydroelectric sources. Solar and wind will represent 70% of the world’s electricity capacity growth over the next five years. New policies are needed to secure and cost-effective integration of this growth into the network. By 2024, distributed applications will grow at half the total solar FV growth and at capacity almost equal to the increase of on-shore wind. Commercial and industrial systems will be responsible for 2/3 of distributed PV growth. The alignment in FV production and electricity demand makes these applications a more attractive investment. For the sustainable growth of distributed systems, balanced public policies are needed that will not only attract investment but also guarantee fixed network revenues and allocate network cost burden fairly among consumers.”
