Akfen Renewable Energy received Turkey’s largest green energy credits, for a total of 530 million dollars’ worth of solar and wind energy projects. Domestic and foreign finance giants have joined forces for a total of 363 million dollars loan to be used in the implementation of 9 solar power plant (SPP) and 4 wind power plant (WPP) projects. LAST YEAR AKFEN HOLDING performed share transfers in Akfen Renewable Energy, TAV Airports and Mersin International Port, provided 1.2 billion USD investment inflows to Turkey and with the trust to Turkish economy, it continues investments for the future without interruption. In December 2017, Akfen Holding announced that it will implement a 6.2 billion TL (1.6 billion USD) investment package in different sectors for the next two years, and is installing 13 wind and solar power plants with 327 megawatts in Turkey’s 5 regions under the umbrella of Akfen Renewable Energy. Aiming to reach the “clean installed power” of 1000 MW by 2020, the renewable energy, which focuses on generating energy from only domestic and renewable sources, including wind, solar and hydroelectric, has received Turkey’s largest green energy loan for solar and wind energy projects worth $530 million. In 9 solar power plants (SPP) and 4 wind power plants (WPP) project, 167 million USD of the investment amount was covered by Akfen holding’s equity funds, while the remaining 363 million USD was received loans from 6 domestic and foreign banks. According to the agreement, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Türkiye İş Bankası undertook 103 million dollars of SPP credit. The loan of 260 million dollars to finance the wind power project was provided by the German KfW IPEX-Bank and EBRD and secured by Vakıfbank, Yapı Kredi Bank and Türk İş Bank. When 13 power plants with a total power of 327 megawatts are completed in approximately 1 year, the electricity of the households where 1.2 million people live will be supplied from completely natural resources. With new investments, Akfen renewable energy’s installed power plant based on production from domestic and natural sources will be increased to 574 MW. INVESTMENTS WILL SPREAD ACROSS 5 REGIONS OF THE COUNTRY Akfen Renewable Energy will spread its projects to different parts of Turkey in Marmara, Aegean, Central Anatolia, Eastern Anatolia, and Black Sea regions, which will provide production from natural and domestic sources. Accordingly, the investment value of $180 million planned 9 WPP project will be established in Konya, Amasya, Tokat, Van, and Malatya. Solar power plants will generate electricity from the sun when completed 70 MW licensed, 15 MW unlicensed total capacity will reach 85 MW. It will cost 350 million dollars and 4 WPPs will take place in Çanakkale and Denizli. The total licensed power of the WPPs will be 242 MW. Akfen Renewable Energy will produce 1,000 GWh of energy annually from 13 projects. Only the energy produced from domestic sources such as the sun and wind will be transferred directly to Turkey’s national electricity network. With the implementation of the projects, the government’s projects will be greatly supported by 2023, which aims to build a capacity of 27,000 MW of non-hydro renewable production from domestic and natural sources. On the other hand, the projects will play an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from Turkey’s electricity generation. “We invest the sources obtained from share transfers again to Turkey” Chairman of the Board of Directors of Akfen holding Hamdi Akın pointed out that they have returned their earnings from share transfers to Turkey again and underlined that the investment package they will implement until the end of 2019 will be operational as planned. Hamdi Akın continued as follows: “We stand behind our promise and continue to present our earnings from the share transfers to the service of Turkey again. We will have implemented the investment package as 6.2 billion TL (1.6 billion USD) in December 2017 until the end of 2019. There will be no disruptions in the timing of these investments, which we have made with our own resources, with the confidence that we hear about Turkey’s future.” Akfen Renewable Energy, which has become an important player in the domestic and renewable power plants needed by Turkey with its investment in recent years, started to produce electricity in three solar power plants in Konya after 20 MW solar photovoltaic projects that have been commissioned in Van. In addition to ME-SE SPP in Konya Sarayönü, one of the 10 MW power plants, Yaysun and MT Natural WP plants in Konya Ereğli have a total installed power of 30 MW. Konya solar power plants, which will transport the generated energy to Turkey through the National Electricity Network, will also meet the energy needs of thousands of people. With the introduction of Konya investments, Akfen Renewable Energy company’s total installed power in production reaches 303 MW, while the company’s annual energy production capacity increased to 1,051 GWS. The three plants that have been operated in Konya, one of the highest provinces in Turkey with solar energy potential, are located on a total of 573 acres of land. The plants expected to generate 59.6 GWh per year will prevent emissions of greenhouse gas equivalent to 37,652 tons of carbon dioxide. The total investment amount of three solar power plants was 65 million dollars. Thanks to solar power plants, Konya gained an important economic value, 120 thousand people ‘ annual energy need to be fully met from domestic and renewable sources is seen as an important data highlighting the investment.
